I wanted to know if it is just me or have others noticed that people that own boats think they are superior to people without boats. Me and my buddy went out fishing last night and got to our spot at about 11 pm. We fish off an extended pier that is about 100 feet from the boat launch on the other side of the channel. When we got out their was one boat fishing about 200 feet from the pier so they weren't in our way since we couldn't cast that far. They left around 2 am, fast forward to about 5 am. The moon is just setting and the sun is about to come up, and next thing we know their are about 8-10 boats at the launch getting ready to go out on the lake. The first boat out of the launch pulls up about 20 feet from where we are standing and just starts casting away right in front of us like we aren't there. The next boat does the same thing except is on a different side then the first. The next 4-5 boats don't start fishing until they are about 200 feet out from the pier. The last boat then decides to pull up right in front of us also and starts fishing like we don't exist. I am all for sharing the water and have nothing against people with boats. If I had the funds I would have a boat too. The only good thing about this situation is that even with 3 boats right on top of us I still caught a muskie right under their noses!!
Sue them? C'mon have some respect for yourself. America goes way over the top with suing people. I prefer just get people riled up, see if they swing at me, then take care of business myself.
A lack of respect is exactly what in boats have toward shore fishermen. I have seen it go the other way on many occaisions too. I was spotting cobia with some guys in the gulf when I heard a ruckus about 100 yds in. A surf fishermen wanted to fight all of us. The guy was nothing short of a pinfish.
I have also surf-fished years at a time and I have to admit that I did not like it when boats showed up. I felt like they had the whole ocean to fish, why not leave this little spot I walked through hell to get to for me?
Now, on to the real issue. A lot of boat fishermen have internal hostility from all the duties of boat ownership. License, registration, lights, etc., then, no or little fish. They begin to feel like idiots when someone catches fish without the hassle. All that being said, a lot of boaters do have a "i am a better fisherman that you" mentality because they have "tools" others don't have. It is really kind of silly in that boaters are disrespectful toward non boaters but then the 20 ft Ranger with a 225 Yamaha may be disrespectful to my little aluminum boat since I didn't spend $35K. Whatever man. When I was in highschool, we had a local bass tourney for all the schools. A countryboy from the hometown lake put his little jonboat in, started with his trolling motor fishing the bank right at the landing and fished all day. I saw the rich kids from the area running up and down the lake like it was a drag race tourney. At the end of the day, the little country boy won first place and took home a beautiful fiberglass nitro with a 115 on it. The next year, he fished out of his jon boat again.
for the type fishing I do, about 2/3 of the time a boat gets in the way. I will leave mine tied at the "end" of creeks and wade as far as I can. Sometimes I don't see my boat for anything other than getting from the ramp to the creek and back to the ramp. This week, I fished with no seats on the deck and no trolling motor because all I did was ride to the creek in it.
Some of the best nights fishing I have ever had were in a bayou in Louisiana where there were no ramps. I would just take my truck to a church who kept up with a bank and launch a little bass buggy. I caught far more nice bass and had more fun than I usually have on big boats.
Often times the docks are the best areas to fish though and boaters feel like they have the right to fish the area too. I like to talk to them real nice like. Most of the time I tell them, "I have never caught a big fish out here before, heck we have fished here all our lives and never seen a decent fish come off this dock." Of course, they all have stories of 10 lb bass from every post. I just say, "Gosh, you are a good fisherman." They usually get that "I conquered his butt feeling" and leave me alone while I do my thing.
If the fish are really biting in the spot, I have been known to say in a real sweet and sexy tone, "Hay you big fishing men, would you and your cute friend like to "toss your worms in my secret spot?" For some reason they usually go to the other side of the lake. LOL
I know that certain fisherman with boats are just complete dicks but I know that IF I had a boat they would be less likely to jump on top of me vs me fishing from shore.
I agree with you...If you go to jail they win.
There is a guy that comes down to this small pond and drops his boat in.
To fish on the shore you only have 75 yrds of beach to fish from the rest is too thick.
This jack ass pulls up 30 yrds in front of us drops anchor and starts fishing.
I yeld out to him (you have the whole pond we only have the beach back off). He looks at me and said ( too bad )..Soo being the easy going guy I am I put a 3/4 oz kastmaster on and tossed it over his boat..Next cast I tossed it side arm and bounced it off the side of his boat. He starts yelling at me about hitting his boat and I said ( too bad ). The big tough guy in the boat starts saying he is going to kick my ass as he pulls anchor and moves on..As he started moving out I told him I would wait right here..
I sat there and keep fishing into the night and that coward sat in the middle of the pond waiting for me to leave..I kept him out there until midnight...I had no intention of fighting I just wanted him to know not everyone will put up with ignorance
Don't forget all these retards leave thier brand new trucks and trailers on shore while they are out there.......i wonder how long it would take for a new ford truck & trailer to sink should some one forget to put the park brake on......
Yeah probably a very long time being as most retards with new trucks and trailers don't leave them unlocked with the keys in so some other retard can get in and drive it into the lake.
I had a canoe for a while and I noticed people would zoom past us like we were not there. Several times it rocked us hard enough to flip us and they never cared. Believe me they saw us, because they waved!
My kids learned how stupid people can be. I told my neighbor I was going to shoot a flare over their bow the next time it happens.
