Mercy, Brad, I haven't even gotten out of the house yet here in Virginia.  My wife fell and broke her pelvis last November to end my fishing season, then blacked out and broke her right elbow about the time the weather started to warm up.  I've had to be her hand and take care of her, but soon I should be able to make it to a lake.  I've had a lot of time to think how to refine my fishing float, adding a way for a fifth rod.

God taught me to sing while fishing. It began when I befriended an old "hippie" at his Christian wife's request. I had a jon boat; he had an antique outboard. But on the day we were to test it, he was sick and asked me to go out alone. Deep into a seldom-visited Corpus Christi bay it conked and absolutely refused to start, stranding me with the tide taking me out to sea. I was inspired to began singing, sort of like Paul and Silas, to praise God despite my situation -- and it suddenly started! As long as I'd sing, the motor would run. When I stopped to think of another hymn or chorus, it'd die. So I sang loudly and without pause, making a joyful noise, all the way back home. Didn't catch a fish that day, but I found out I don't have a bad voice when the Spirit's in me.

Some of my best time alone with God is when I'm fishing. At age 63 the only way I can get a cast in that tight right place is through prayer with His help. Yes, I found He cares about casts. I started bass fishing at Toledo Bend in a tube float on Saturday mornings to think over my sermons for Sunday. It's great to get away with Him. Besides, Jesus knows where all the fish are.
