Fly Fishing

Saltwater or Fresh, Do you sling line?

For those who want to know more about it:
Fly Fishing is about throwing "lures" that look more like the real bugs (or baitfish) that a fish would look at. Rather than using the weight of the lure to pull the line out, you have to use the weight of the line to bring out your nearly weightless fly. Flies are made with fibers, feathers, fur and thread tied onto a hook. They sometimes look so much like the real thing, but often they're just big, fuzzy and ugly and catch loads of fish!
The best part of fly fishing is the fight, you can pull a fish in by gripping the line in your hands and fighting that fish's every move. (of course, you can use your reel, too)

Found some stripers this weekend that had swam up the Vegas wash out of Lake Mead. Caught three on the fly in a deep hole in the stream. I was surprised they were up the stream that far!

two fish on today.  Sadly my buddies cold fingered knot didn't hold up long enough for me to net his fish.  Then my fish popped the fly just before my buddy got the net over his head!  Bah.  But a great day non the less.  Very pretty and B-I-G fish on the lines today!  Two weeks in a row now.  I'm loving this!!!

Looks like it's been a while since any one went fly fishing!

I'll be heading out tomorrow AM for my third trip steelheading in as many weeks.  Nothing on the first trip with my buddy.  Went alone last weekend and caught my first steelie(my current profile picture). Tomorrow is with my buddy and a new friend.  The new friend isn't going fishing, he's going shooting.  Hahaha, pictures that is.  The new friend happens to be a pro photographer.  So no matter what happens tomorrow we'll get some great shots.  And if my fishing partner and I happen to bag a few we don't have to worry about getting proof.  The new guy will have that in the bag!  I might be getting spoiled!  haha  Really excited about tomorrow!  Speaking of which I must be off to bed.  Fishy dreams.  ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......................

Cool, I keep forgetting my camera and I've been hauling in some nice 10" brookies.Didn't get any this morning though, but a bad day's fishing is better than a good day's work.

I've been to Edmonton on day trips, but I did my fishing farther north: Cold Lake and Primrose Lake, back in in the 80s, Caught nice walleye up there.
