Fly Fishing

Saltwater or Fresh, Do you sling line?

For those who want to know more about it:
Fly Fishing is about throwing "lures" that look more like the real bugs (or baitfish) that a fish would look at. Rather than using the weight of the lure to pull the line out, you have to use the weight of the line to bring out your nearly weightless fly. Flies are made with fibers, feathers, fur and thread tied onto a hook. They sometimes look so much like the real thing, but often they're just big, fuzzy and ugly and catch loads of fish!
The best part of fly fishing is the fight, you can pull a fish in by gripping the line in your hands and fighting that fish's every move. (of course, you can use your reel, too)

Hi, I am going on a float trip on the Lower Lomoille River in mid June near Fairfax, VT. The guides say we should be catching nice brown trout and smallies. Does anyone fish that area? My daughter lives in VT and I fish VT about 2 to 3 times each year.

Jake - re: Spearfish Ck I've fished it various places along the road in the canyon. Caught browns on nymphs, but never as many as I thought I would - the water looks SO GOOD!. Lower Little Spearfish has a lot of fish in the meadow, but the slow, clear water makes them a real challenge. I really like Castle and Ditch Cks. Also, Little Elk for wild brookies (at least it had a lot of brookies 15 years ago)
