chipr, i fish the chippewa river in wisconsin. i target the area below the jim falls dam. i usually look for weed flats. rock crops, or back eddies. i throw buck tails, top water baits, and big plastic baits. try the hawg wobbler, top raider, tally wacker, or something similer. i have had luck on the king sized x-rap in perch, as well

Just joined this group, I am in South Central Wisconsin and have fished the Wisconsin River going into Lake Wisconsin for 27 years. I have caught a number of Muskies but never because I was fishing for them. This year I would like to tackle going after them not by accident but by planned. What am I really looking for as far as structure depth etc in an ever changing body of water? Not wanting to fill my boat with Muskie baits what 5 baits would you suggest to throw?

For Rene: Dirty water in the fall? Lake St.Clair? I would have to say the best bait for this situation is the Chartruese/Black Dot Suick...10 inch model...cast and work very fast or troll...trolling this bait is insane! Second choice would be a chartruese/ gold blade double cowgirl...get the blades moving! Anything that is bright or put up big water movement is key! Also the bait should be no smaller than a nine inch bait!
For Bean: I fish the Kawartha Lakes often and the fishing right now is unbelievable :) Look for rock piles and schools of perch and walleye in open water! Fish right through the school and hang on!
