Trout Season in Jersey? 2 Replies

Trout Season starts on Saturday and I was curious if anyone knew of a decent river in Northern NJ where I won't be elbow to elbow with other fishermen. I went to Ramapo River last year and there was too many people.Continue

This is a little late but I could never catch a fish on swartswood lake. I have tried live bait to my rapalas, jigs, powerbait and gulp worms and even some spinners. Hopefully this year I will have some luck

Any tips on where to fish the shoreline on Swartswood Lake for BASS?

I do my best days fishing in jersey when its nasty or overcast out plain and simple.

Too much boat traffic other wise. Get some good rain gear and get out there. If not your missing some good bassfishing.I went out last week to a small state lake and caught 14 bass in 4 hrs.

1 other guy on the lake and he wasn't willing to throw the anchor out and fish.

Knucklehead fought the wind with his trolling motor and eventually left and I had the whole lake to myself. It was an awesome few hours.

Would have stayed longer but had to pick up the kids.

Happy Fishing!

You should go to Lake Fork one day.. 28,000 some odd acres.. Well, I haven't fished Union in a few years, but some things shouldn't change very much. Union is a Big sand pit for the most part; a lot of the lake proper has very little vegetation and/or structure. there are some man made fish attractors; I think you were parked on or very near some from your last Union Report...

I think I still have some good spots marked on my F.F., but being as I have the boat in repair mode now, I can't really check..

I also have a map; I need to find it. But from memory.. around by by the Islands, and dropping off into deeper water, and all the reedy areas, around the 'old' dam, definitely going upstream, especially for the smallies..

all that rip-rap to the left of the dam, and the beach areas, when the crowds are gone.. there are some humps around the marina.. I need to find my maps. Union also has a sizeable population of schooling baitfish; shad and alewives..

I've followed the bait and gotten lot's of schooling bass..something kinda rare for up here.. Oh.. a word of warning about going up the creek.. lots and lots of Poison Ivy all over, especially in those little backwater coves...

I'm looking for any Jersey anglers who are familiar with Union lake. I fish the lake but not as often as I'd like. It's such a big lake, it's hard to find all the hotspots.I'm looking for the smallmouth hotspots and the largemouth hotspots. Every lake has them. Thanks for the help anyone can give.
