Even with the heavy snowfall in the past few days, the ice conditions are extremely poor and unsafe. Mother Nature decided to dump one last snowstorm (hopefully) on us and we received about 12-16 inches of heavy mushy snow. Luckily for us, this is pretty much the norm around here and we just keep looking forward to May 15 and the spring Walleye Opener. And Saturday, May 16, 2009 starts the annual Lake Gogebic Spring Walleye Tournament sponsored by the area Chamber of Commerce. The entry fee for this tourney is $35 and well worth it for the prizes awarded. First place is $1,000 all the way down to 10th place which is a prize of $100. Entries received by May 1st will also be entered into a early drawing for a $50 prize. What a great way to kick off fishing season! This is a weekend long tournament and begins at 8am EST Saturday till 10pm Saturday then commencing again at 8am EST on Sunday and ending at 1pm EST Sunday. So come and join us for the weekend here at the Walleye Lodge. We are about 2 miles away from the nearest check-in spot, the Hoop-N-Holler Tavern and we can easily accommodate almost any size party, with rooms that sleep from 1 to 10 people. We have a fish cleaning station available and the new managers are happy to help you in any way we possibly can. For more information on the Lake Gogebic Spring Walleye Tournament, you can go to www.lakegogebicarea.com or call them toll free at 1-888-Gogebic.
