NewfoundLand...A Fishermans Dream

Newfoundland and Labrador, a Canadian province (known simply as Newfoundland from 1949 to 2001) Dominion of Newfoundland, an independent country (from 1907 to 1934)

The Dominion of Newfoundland was a British dominion from 1907 (before which the territory had the status of a British colony) to 1949. The Dominion of Newfoundland was situated in northeastern North America along the Atlantic coast and… Continue

Hey John! Howsit going buddy? I'm sorry that I never responded to your query about a new fishing rod. I actually have not been back to Get Reeled for some time. No real reason I suppose, i guess I forgot about it. lol. Anyways I had an incredible fishing season in summer of 2010. i was the busiest I have ever been, and I landed some of the biggest fish of my career. We run a five month long halibut derby during our season in Homer. with monthly big fish prizes and a Biggest fish Jackpot. well In august my clients won two big fish prizes and we also won the Jackpot. A young woman on my boat caught and landed a 277.6 pound halibut. It ended up being the largest fish of the season and she took home $40,610! it was an awesome fish 87 inches long. It took her 45 minutes to land out of 140 feet of water. We were targeting Ling cod at the time of the hook up and the fish hit an 11 inch white grubtail jig. All in all a great season. I actually am in the market for a new charter boat for the upcoming year. I will be purchasing a 28 foot Bertram and outfitting it with new YANMAR Diesels. we are pretty excited for it.

As for a fishing rod (if you haven't already purchased one) An inexpensive option would be the Shakespeare Tidewater series. I used to run them on my charter boat, I have since upgraded. The tidewaters run about $40 to $60 and have a line rating of either 40 to 80 pound or 40 to 130 pound. They are strong rods and are very durable. They can handle any fish and we ran 80lb Tuffline on them. The reel's I used were Penn GLD Grafite 120 lever drag. They are fairly priced at around $160.
This is a tough and durable combo that will handle any fish you put to it.

ya there was no ice here last winter either, there was a different school of tuna here this year too lotsa small ones and skip jacks never been here before. its weird. if i see a swordfish imm be really concerened they need really warm water to survive. they cruise the gulf stream to nfld.

hey john i havent been on here lately but i know of a couple. one is 1ooo bucks with dacron and mono already on it bent butt. and one for 800 its a little older rod with a one speed penn reel on it it has dacron and mono on it. we got two tuna this year. but the season was only two days. bullshit. and halibut this year was 18 hours and we ended up with 3000 pounds so that was pretty good. the size went up to 85 cm here this year.
