I love bass fishing!! I have been fishing my entire life... literally since I have been old enough to hold a rod. My favorite fishing destinations are the Lake of the Ozarks and Kentucky Lake. Also, I'm lucky enough to have had the opportunity to do some serious fishing up north in Canada. I would recommend making a trip up there sometime. The lakes are crystal clear (we drank the water straight out of the lake) and perfect for canoeing, you never see any other people, and of course the fishing is second to none!! It is an unbelievable experience every time. I hope to get up there again this summer.
I like to throw a lot of finesse jigs (eakin's), texas rigged plastics (P`owerbait, Senkos), buzzbaits, poppers, spro frogs, lucky craft pointers, Cordell Super Spot lipless cranks (craw and royal shad are great spring lures), white willow leaf spinner baits, and Rapala Shadraps/DTs.
My favorite rig is my 6'6" MH action G.Loomis GL3 paired with a Shimano Chronarch MG50. It is sweet, smooth and just about weightless. There is nothing better for throwing crankbaits all day.
I also love my 7' M action Shimano Compre paired with a Pflueger President. Those Pflueger Presidents are the best deal going! I love throwing Senkos (green pumpkin) and Lucky Craft Pointers (aurora black and table rock shad) with it. The Lucky Craft Pointers are super expensive, but worth every penny! They suspend perfectly and flat out catch the hell out of fish in cold water. I went with the Medium action on this rod because it seeed to be very stiff for a Medium action rod. The MH was waaaaaay to stiff.
I also own a 7' MH Airrus Spectra paired with a Shimano Curado 200DHSV. This set up is my flipping rig. I love using this with jigs and texas rigged 10" Powerbait worms (junebug and green pumpkin produce the best for me). The 7:1 ratio on the reel combined with the backbone of this rod is great for pulling fish out of heavy cover. You can pull them out before they know they are hooked with this reel. I also prefer to use this rod for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. It can really launch a 1/2 - 3/8oz spinnerbait and the high speed retrieve is perfect for burning spinnerbaits and buzzbaits.
I am looking to get a boat, soon. My fishing buddy and I are looking to split the cost of an early '90s Ranger or something. Any donations to help my cause are welcome... hahahahahaha. I am lucky enough to have two uncles that let me borrow their Rangers whenever I want, so life is good!
Overall, in my opinion nothing is better than drinking some cold ones out on the boat on a nice day with good company and pulling in some lunkers!
oh ok, yeah i guess that could be considered southern ontario depending on where you are, but im about an hour north of buffalo new york so quetico is still almost a 2 day drive from me lol....always wanted to go fishing there though. we're lucky here in ontario to have such good fishing, unfortunatley in my neck of the woods bass season doesnt start until june 28th!
