An award-winning outdoor writer/photographer, to date I have published upwards of 500 articles in more than two dozen hunting and fishing periodicals throughout Canada and the US, and have had my material appear on news stands far away as South Africa, New Zealand, and even the UK. Including but not limited to, my work has appeared in Big Game Adventures, Buckmasters, Big Buck (Field Editor), Alberta Outdoorsmen (former Monthly Columnist "Product Reviews"), Gray's Sporting Journal, Whitetail Journal, Fly Rod & Reel, Fly Fisherman, Home Waters, as well as Black Powder Guns and Hunting, Cabela's Outfitter Journal, and Waterfowl Hunter, to name but just a few. A dyed-in-the-wool trophy whitetail hunter, I'm an avid crossbow fanatic and love hunting with black powder when not "flinging" arrows. To date I have several "book" whitetails to my credit, including a dozen buck all taken with muzzleloader that have an overall Boone and Crockett average score of 163 inches. Living in Western Canada has allowed me to pursue a number of big game species in addition to whitetails, and I have been fortunate enough to harvest everything from mule deer and elk to moose and black bear. That said, however, when it comes to hunting, nothing gets my blood pumping faster than waterfowl, especially "big water" divers. Although I'm passionate about hunting, my absolute first love in the outdoors is fly fishing. If I'm not actually fly fishing, then I am talking fly fishing, tying flies, studying entomology, watching fly fishing on television, reading about fly fishing, or simply dreaming about it. My favourite game fish on the high line is Pacific salmon, especially pinks on 7-weight tackle, followed by chums on 9-weight gear. As for trout, come May you'll find me floating the Bow River indicator fishing for browns and rainbows. Prairie Creek is another favourite fishery, and I generally step down into a 4-weight outfit to pursue browns on dry flies. The Elk River in B.C., long known for its cutthroat fishery, is another desired fly fishing location, and soon as the aspens turn gold, that's probably where I'll be leaving footprints in the sand. I must also amidt to be an avid ice fisherman, and love tackling northern pike on tip-ups or jigging for walleye and perch. First-ice brook trout are my absolute favourite winter fish, as they are in full spawning colours, and are eager to bite alomst anything you drop down the auger hole. And like almost anyone else, if I get a chance to do some trolling during the summer months for lake trout, walleye, pike, or pretty much anything that swims, chances are I'll be taking a boat ride.
