I went and met the local taxidermist today. Holy shit! You should see my fly tying room now; every bit of spare space on the walls is covered with furs and hairs. Moose, whitetail, caribou, black bear, wolf, wild sheep and wild boar. And today is the last day of my vacation. Bad timing. Still no car yet though; got the mother-in-law's for a couple weeks until we get ours paid off.
Off I go to play with some flies. Take it easy, or any way you can,,
How's it going? Sucks down this way; 2 days after I started my vacation the car conked out. Gotta get a new engine. Didn't get any fishing done but I tied a shitload of flies hahaha.
A new hunting and fishing shop opened up in town the other week. I'm supplying them with the flies. Guess I caught that elevator on the ground floor.
My brother-in-law was talking to the local taxidermist the other day as well. Seems he has lots of spare furs and stuff that I can get my hands on. I'll see if he's willing to make a trade for some tackle that I made.
Well, I have a couple movies downloaded here, so I'll be chatting with you later on. Take care and catch a couple trout for me haha.
Teaching a fly tying course would be cool. $55 is about the going price for a tying kit at Cdn Tire. I didn't start out with a kit myself; I bought my stuff separately. Cost more, but I have all my stuff now plus a whole lot more.
Time to drop the wife off at work and hit the river. Take it easy Chad.
Things are going good here. I finally have more than one day off. I'll have time to have a whole day fishing. Probably do it tomorrow; The wife'll be working, it'll be payday and I'll have a good thirst up to get on the beer tomorrow evening. Kinda like the perfect storm brewing up!
The trout are taking flies pretty good now and the royal coachman seems to be the superfly this year.
Caught a 1 lb sea run brookie a couple weeks ago. On the bbq an hour later!
Well, gotta run; going out to a restaurant with the wife shortly. Take it easy man.
Well, $2 for a fly isn't too much. I charge $1 per and people tell me I undercharge. But I do it because I like to do it and it makes people happy to get some nice flies for a great price.
Do you sell in stores or just do personal deals? Back home in Nfld every second store and gas station sells handcrafted flies, but here in NB that isn't done a whole lot, so I found a nice little niche market. I checked out the stores that sell them today and they are going pretty good. The water in the river is pretty high yet, but in the brooks the trout are taking flies.
Well, gotta go; got steaks on the bbq. Take it easy,
Ive had some flies in the stores for a couple weeks now. They're selling pretty good at one place, but it's a bit early for fly fishing here yet. I think I'm going to use my fly money this year on an air brush; I'm starting to get a bit better at making wooden lures but spray paint just don't cut it lol.
I've been at the water a couple times, but nothing yet. We're into the busy season at work now. Our fish are getting shipped to the sea cages. I have today off because of the weather.
Not familiar with a mrs. simpson. what kind of fly is it? anyways, take it easy for now and have a good one.
