Went fishing today on Union Lake hear in South Jersey.This is the second largest lake in the state. The fishing was very slow at first. The water was badly stained due to so much rain for the past week. I had overcast skies and showers for most of the day. Searched for about two hours looking for the fish, trying numerous techniques trying to fish all the water columns diligently. Well I went fishing again yesterday. I started fishing in about 8 Ft. of water in an area I thought the fish may be but to my surprise they were not. I fished this area on an old road bed that runs width wise across the lake with a search bait (lippless crankbait). I even tried fishing the area slower making numerous casts with a Texas rigged worm to no avail. Finally after an hour of this I realized they just were not in this depth range. Well I played hookie from work to go fishing today. Now be honest, how many of you have done this? I did'nt get out on the water untill about 3:00 pm. At first the fishing was alittle slow with only a few pickerel and a couple of lost fish that I never got to see. What an incredable day of fishing!!! the conditions were perfect, overcast sky,slight breeze, and a cold front on it's way for the following day. I caught 25 bass and probably 12 really big pickerel. The bass were off the beds and roaming around the lake. Mostly males but alot of females are starting to feed now as well after a long winter and stressfull spawn.
