Getting fired up

Getting fired up..I shoulda' been fishing already, but I've still got snowboarding on the mind. I always look forward to this time of year-when I can enjoy both of my passions on the same day. Heard they're catching big trout under Moore dam on the Connecticut. I gotta sneak out there and see if I can catch one that betters my boy Simon's six pound brown that he (we) caught last April.

Stranded in Iowa

So here it is. I have lived my entire life in Northern MN and work had transplanted me to the lakeless place called Iowa. It is a completely different fishing world here, don't get me wrong, I have met a lot of fishing people but dirty rivers pose a serious health concern to me. Catfish are huge here as well as river rough fish but can anyone clue me in on a place to catch Walleye that I can eat without going 250 miles from home.

The solitude, that's why he spent so much time on his old boat. He had seen and done so much in his life that was filled with a cacophony of so many different loud and intrusive sounds that he relished the peace and tranquility that the boat offered him. The fish were an afterthought. It didn't matter if he caught them or not, it was the time spent alone with his thoughts that he treasured the most. And at his age he had a lot to think about, a lot to… Continue

Fishing Tip

I have a good fishing tip for people living in the east bay region of california. if you go to, click on activities, then click fishing and you'll see a thing that says Anglers Edge Online, click on that and scroll down the page a little bit and you'll see a thing that says fish planting information, by clicking that you will be able to see the type of fish, how many pounds of that fish, and what week the fish will be planted a res near you. hope this was helpful to you.

No Boats.....but now has boots!!!

So we have been up to all good as usual :) From picking up my leopard print rubber boots (no I am not kidding!) to taping the Frugal Fisherman segment, it has been a busy week! We picked up our licenses and are ready to get to some real actual fish catching!

I wanted to jump back a bit and touch on a small issue I am having........earlier here I mentioned that I had purchased a pair of leopard print rubber boots.....I feel it necessary to put a teeny little rant in here......ever… Continue

Fishing the old boxite mines

Being brought up in Alabama where there were more than a few old bauxite mines that had filled with water making real nice places to both swim and fish. Normally the waters were clear and many had been planted with largemouth bass. Since the waters were so clear the bass could see any potential danger lurking along the edge, such as a hungry fisherman. They could also see the prey they fed on, so most of the bass were lunker size, feeding on everything from bugs to snakes and… Continue
