Yesterday 042808 - Jacks and Moonfish

Following the aftermath that was the Blue Marlin media frenzy, we decided to just take it easy and stay inside and work the fun fish. We went out with only a half dozen smaller sized silver mullet and a tackle box full of casting baits. The plan was to work the bridges and the seawalls and see if we couldn't bend the rods. We did ok, we got into the Jacks pretty good for a short time period. When the sun went down we found some lights and got into the Moonfish. On the right… Continue

Last night I get a call from the captain telling me he's putting together a Marlin trip for today, this Sunday morning. Me being a total loser, and obsessed sports fan, I say, "No thanks, I'm gonna watch the NFL Draft Day 2" In conversation saying you are going out on a "Marlin Trip" out off Fort Lauderdale will be met with a look of - that sounds adventurous but what it really means is you are going out for Sailfish and Dolphin. Well wouldn't you know it, my cell phone rings… Continue

Can't wait to get started

God I love to fish. There's not much in life that compares to fishing these days. There's nothing like just sitting there relaxing with your senses keen on trying to guess and feeling out the fish. The fight of a big fish is a feeling that you never forget. It's a wonderful feeling and definitely worth the wait of the bite. Well this is my first blog and I can't wait to snag the first big one of the season. Take care and God bless

042508 - Yesterdays results

We went out yesterday for some late afternoon Snook action around Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale,We got a dozen hogleg mullet and trolled a couple of spots. Didn't see a single tarpon roll all afternoon. While we didn't get a snook, we did catch some decent sized jacks and landed this barracuda casting white jerk baits with a mono leader. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that we didn't actually land the cuda, it jumped in the boat. Video…

Goin' Snook Fishin' this afternoon

Late Friday afternoon trip with Capt. Jeff. We are gonna be fishing out his Ranger Banshee. It feels hot enough and muggy enough, so we figured damn the boat traffic, damn the Friday night cruisers we gonna hit a few corners and see if there are any snook out there.

Yamaha motors

I am wondering if I have a lemon. Everyone I have ever talked to about Yamaha outboards have said nothing but good things about them but my outboard is running rough and its not even a year old. I bought a Stratos 176XT with a 70 hp Yamaha on the back in July last year and since that time it has been in the shop five times for repairs and they still cannot find the problem. Don't get me wrong I love the boat but when you pay good money for a new boat you shouldnt have to worry about rough… Continue

Joe Pool 4/22/08

A friend of mine e-mailed me at work and invited me with him to fish Joe Pool Tuesday afternoon. Fished from 6-9 p.m. Caught about 40, but only seven keepers. Also caught a carp, some largemouths, bream and a rock bass.

All fish were caught on his hand-tied hair jigs tight-lined in 2-4 feet of water, mostly around grassy areas. Surface temps were 73-80. Air temp in the 80s and muggy.

Startig bass fishing around 7p.m. after class. I was using my new rapala x-rap. First cast I caught a 14in bass. I was happy cause I didn't know the lure would perform. By sunset I had caught close to 30 bass and 1 channel catfish all on the same lure. The x-rap is a wonderful lure in my opinion to use. It has great realistic movement in the water and the suspending is awesome.

Urban Coyotes in Tulsa

I was driving East on 71st on my way to work last Tuesday, and had one of the biggest coyotes I've ever seen in this part of the state waltz across all six lanes of traffic from one small wooded area to another. It was 7:20 am, but I had been to the office once that morning, and, unfortunately, had left my digital camera there, so I missed a great photo opportunity.

Two years ago, I saw another coyote standing on the side of the road near Little Joe Creek at 53rd and Sheridan. It was 2pm,… Continue
