There are of fourteen varieties of sharks caught from the boards of the Venice City Pier at Sharky’s but the most common are our Blacktips, Hammerheads, Lemon, Reef, Nurse and the verbose Bull Sharks. Big Bulls have always been the talk of the pier throughout the year with Hammerheads arriving on the tails of the migrating schools of Kings and Tarpon. A big hammer is a sight to see and always becomes… Continue

Looks like the bigger fish are about to get on their post-spawn brushpiles pretty soon. The last couple of trips I've caught 8-9 really good ones. Probably could've had a lot more in numbers if I'd go back to shooting docks, but I'm looking more for quality.
Windy as heck early this morning. Even tossed back a 12-incher thinking I wouldn't be able to hang very long in that kind of wind. But it died down about 10-15 mph a little after… Continue

Spent a few hours at James Reed again and didn't do much. A few bluegill, one crappie and one bass all caught and released due to size.

Depending who you talked to, and where they went for Memorial Day weekend, the fishing was hit or miss in Northern Michigan. I went back to a lake I visited the week prior and caught about the same amount of fish in three hours (3 fish)....although this time by kayak and not a motor boat......still fun to be on the water though!!!!

The boat is up and running but I didn't do any fishing in it over the holiday weekend. Instead, I just relaxed, and hung out listened to oldies on the deck in between hikes around the lake.
Of course I made it out once though in the paddle boat around the cove. Now last time in my scouting I found and actually saw two awesome bass that I couldn't land-- one near the shore under a tree branch and the other in some fairly shallow water next to a large boulder under water. I like… Continue

Just finished frying up some cat. The cats at James Reed Wildlife Area were hitting the nightcrawlers today. Fish always tastes better when you catch it yourself!

he was the Bronzeback, a smallie rod extraordinaire. although he was a short 6'3" in stature, he made up for his lack of length with heart, determination and accuracy. In his day he pulled in a pb smallie of 5'9" lbs, a pb largemouth of 7lbs, and a pb chain pickerel of over 5lbs. he fought hard, through rock, reeds, grass, slime, branches, snags, weeds, muck, leaves. anything you could throw at him, he would vanquish without complaint, cast beyond belief, and always be alert to signal the next… Continue

My Secret Fishing Spot
By Terri MacKinnon
Last year I put a video on youtube about my opening weekend fishing from the shoreline. We went to one of my favorite fishing holes and we had spent a couple hours catching pike, bass and trout. I thought it would be fun to put the video online for some of our friends to share some of my success for the day. It was my secret location, or should I say I thought it was until today.
I did give some pretty good clues as to the… Continue

Memorial day is a good day for fishing!! I can't fish because I messed up my fishing pole. I always seem to have bad luck when it comes to fishing poles.

Yeay!! I finally got to go fishing and I had a blast. It was just the thing me and Ja rod needed. When times get tough............... GO FISHING!!! It works miracles!!!! Having babies certainly makes it tougher to go . So when I get to go I really appreciate it. Moms need to get out just as much as dads maybe even more!!! But pretty soon my baby is coming too, she's running around with her Barbie vest on right now. I think shes hinting! Happy Memorial day everyone............call a Vet. you… Continue

Caught around 10 or so box fish and had to deal way too many drunk skiers. Hitting up Benbrook tomorrow--only 1 gallon of gas to get there as opposed to 1 tank to get to Texoma.

Gotta get to bed soon--getting up at 2am to head to Texoma for some striper action. Buddy of mine caught stripes up to 17lbs today--ggood times. Been a while since topwater action has been good there. I'll add some pictures when I get back
