Waters were very choppy again in Muskegon but the fishing was worth the battle. Reeled in an 18lb Coho at about 55 feet on my way in today straight off the channel. Took this 36 incher on a Bloody Nose J Plug. Nice fight as he took to the air twice.

I have finally settled in at Muskegon State Park where we have a campsite and moored the boat at the end of the channel. Mondays fishing was slow but have learned the salmon are out from 125 to 150 feet of water and down deep. Tuesday morning was a wash as the winds whipped up 4 to 5 footers. Hoping to get out there soon to slay some salmon.

Since our store is located on a busy highway, we have numerous community groups, school groups, and fishing and hunting clubs request donations for various fundraisers. Most of the time, Mike's Sporting Goods will donate a custom embroidered t shirt or hat. And of course we always receive a nice thank you card or letter.
Recently, we were approached by a young man from… Continue

Who's excited for the weekend? I know I am! I have a lot of fishing to do and a lot of work to be done on my figure-8 racecar. It doesn't help when you are mechanically handicapped.

I bought a book a year ago called "50 Places to Fly Fish Before You Die". The book gives you a list of the best fly fishing destinations in the world, or just some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. I thought it would be cool if by the time I die, I would have fly fished in all or most of these destinations. Since my family lives up in Michigan I thought I would pick the Au Sable River in my book. A couple months later I saw a show on the outdoors channel called "On the Rise,… Continue

Mike and I just returned from 3 days at the Jersey shore. We did some surf fishing at Corson's Inlet. We didn't catch anything; but that is ok for me anyway.

Perfect day for bass fishing! Just going out for fun, catch and release. Mostly gloomy, low winds, and rain on the way tonight. Using a flashy deep dive crank, then later using top water or weedless jig near the lily pads and docks. Water is very clear so I need to keep a low visibility... :) I'll take pictures and post them :)))

Ranger Boats Files for Bankruptcy
The president of Ranger Boats in Flippin said Tuesday that the Chapter 11 filing originated by its privately held parent company will have little impact on the company's operations.
Randy Hopper, president of the fiberglass fishing-boat manufacturer, said while the economy remains grim for the overall boating industry, his segment is better positioned.

It's been a while since I wrote a blog here. The past few weeks had been a mixed bag of work, fishing and the mother of all nosebleeds as my wife calls it that ended in me having an operation in my nose. I lost quite a bid of blood, over 2/3 to be exact, and I am still feeling the aftermath of it today.
I have to take it easy for a few weeks and spend that time fishing with my wife on one of the many great fishing lakes near our home. It's July and that means hunting season is only… Continue

Petoskey - Catch rates for lake trout did slow. Good smallmouth action in the shallows where anglers were catching and releasing up to 20 fish per trip in Little Traverse Bay.
Charlevoix - Lake trout moved out deeper and were caught about 95 feet down in waters up to 140 feet deep. Smallmouth bass were on the beds and cruising in the shallow waters of Lake Michigan.
Lake Charlevoix - Perch and rock bass have been seen near the docks in… Continue

Check out my tackle website www.eclecticfish.com. My family makes these new topwater fishing lures. The Eclectic Lure is great for fresh and saltwater fishing, plus all lures have a scent chamber. I hope all the Tackle Junkies out there take a look and let me know what you think. My father and I are also working on another feature for our lures Sonic Sound.

It could not have been a better weekend at Dixon Lake, Minnesota! The weather was PERFECT for 5 days straight, and the fish were hungry! A few years ago, the Minnesota Twins (Baseball) gave away a "Doug Meinkievitch" (3rd baseman) RAPALA fishing lure to the first 10,000 fans. I tried it out a couple of years ago and have been using it for trolling ever since. I found it at a place called Reeds Outfitting at Mil Lacs Lake in Minnesota, and bought all they had. Over the… Continue
