If you’ve never caught a mullet on a fishing pole, then this may interest you. If you have then join the few that really enjoy fishing and will do almost anything to catch a different species.
On Halloween day, Karen and I decided to put all our extensive mullet research together and go fish a short while. Normally we fish for snapper or sheepshead this time of year.
We drove the short distance to a place called Burnt Store canal and stopped at the bridge to try our… Continue

Lake Lanier Stripers are busting the top in large schools. Now is the time. Chug bugs and the SPRO BBZ-1 and Redfins are the lure of choice unless you are throwing the the gummy fly and cyotes or Cowen's bait fish minnow.

What every fisherman should know about fishing for salmon during their spawning season to help preserve more fish for future adventures.
Chinook salmon, are the largest of Michigan salmon species. The state record is a whopping 46 pounds 1 ounce but they average around 12-14 pounds. This is the same average weight of most Chinook found in Alaskan waters.
The circle of life of a chinook salmon in Michigan is truly amazing! They… Continue

Why do some rivers and streams Artificial fly only sections?
I have learned that restrictions on the use of live bait are usually intended to prevent the introduction of undesirable species into new waters.
There are many river and stream sections where the use or possession of live fish as bait is prohibited. In other waters the use of live fish, dead fish or fish parts may be prohibited.
There is some evidence that fish caught using live or organic baits are… Continue

I have heard quite often of women dumping men over their passions for hunting and fishing. “honey, you just don’t spend a lot of time with me” or “you should want to be with me more than your desire to hunt or fish” and “hunting and fishing seems to be much more important to you and me”. Well, let me tell you something ladies…I know exactly how these men feel now. I just got dumped over my passion for fishing and nothing hits your self-esteem quite as hard as getting dumped. The fact is that I… Continue

Salmon angled, and then PROPERLY released will recover successfully in a short time and go on to spawn successfully.
Salmon angled are exerting themselves to an exhausted state in the same way a marathon runner might.
Most anglers, myself included, usually want to take a picture of their catch for bragging rights or memories of their trip. For those of you who take photos, please remember to respect the fish you caught and handle it quickly and properly.

Every year or two, millions of pink salmon return to local rivers to spawn. It makes for great fishing, but it's also tempting with so many fish ripe for the plucking to break the rules and poach or snag them. As a result of poaching, the fall-run chinook salmon population is declining sharply.
One poacher can wipe out a whole generation of salmon. Poaching is just one of the threats facing salmon stocks, but is one which can be prevented.
Washington, who speaks on behalf… Continue

Hey ladies, you don’t have to be a “tom boy” to like to fish. I am certainly not your typical fishing person and I’m not shy to show it either. I am a “girly-girl” at heart who truly loves the sport of fishing. I am who I am and I like what I like.
Last week, I overheard some locals mentioning that the Salmon were running. The Salmon are running…and I thought to myself, boy, I would surely love the experience of catching such a large fish. So, I decided to take action and plan a… Continue
