Karen and I arrived at one of our favorite fishing areas next to the Four Mile Cove Ecological Park.
After unloading our kayak off the rack I built, we carried it onto the dock and put it safely into the Dinwiddie canal.
The State recently removed the cement water barrier that separated brackish salt and fresh water, so we really didn’t know how the fishing there would be affected.
We loaded the small cooler, climbed in and paddled away from the dock.
I told Karen that… Continue

Matthew and I loaded up the kayak and headed for the Ecological Park here in Cape Coral. We arrived within 10 minutes and prepared to launch the kayak into Dinwiddie canal.
I rigged Matthew’s ultra light pole with a Styrofoam floater with 3 feet of 8 lb. leader and a worm hook, then I removed my floater and added a 3” Rapala lure to drag behind the kayak while we paddled to Dimple canal some 15 minutes away.
We saw a few mullet jumping, but no sign of Jack fish or much else except a… Continue

Have a ? I gave my friend John my crab trap to throw in the brackish water area behind the condo where I fish and where he lives. All he has caught is a turtle. However, I just found out that about 3 or so years ago some dudes from a local eating place had traps in there and they where cleaning out these traps DAILY (thus depleting the crab population). Any clue as to how long it takes crabs to mate and stock up the area????Thanks for any input!!!

As we go deeper into the Fall and Winter rapidly approaching, open water will give way to the cover of ice that will linger into early Spring. Or at least it will for many of us in the northern part of the country. Though some moments will be spent on the ice chasing those elusive finny creatures we are so very fond of, we will spend even more time planning and thinking about the days of open water ahead. Part of that time is likely to be spent online reading up on the tactics and tackle that… Continue
